Slavery: scattering/return

One more point. Because of slavery, Africa today is scattered outside the motherland; in Europe, in America mainly. Africans being at the same time in- and outside africa, it is predictable that there is no chance for us to be completely ourselves unless we have reunited again. Conditions for that reunion have to be organized. In that way, African/African American summits have taken place in Africa. Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Libreville (Gabon), Dakar (Senegal), Harare (Zimbabwe), Accra (Ghana), Abuja (Nigeria) have already hosted such summits. I think it is time Yaounde too hosts an African/African American summit. Men, women and children of this land have been enslaved and deported during « the Middle Passage » or transatlantic slavery. Plus, in the littoral region there remains descendants of our enslaved ancestors who succeeded in returning back to the motherland.

In the continuity of what other african states are already doing, thanks to them, cameroonian nationality and passport should be given to all african descendants who express the desire to own it either because their origins are in our country or simply because they wish to. For that reason, Cameroon must look for an efficient policy in order to build a permanent bridge towards the Africans that slavery stole away from Cameroon and Africa. Historical sites related to that unspeakable tragedy whose effects we still suffer from today must be listed and converted for both Africans a yard and abroad. Other pioneer States like Ghana, Benin have shown the way. Senegal is blessed with a long tradition of relationships with Africans from the african diaspora who regularly come on pilgrimage to the Gorée island from where more than hundred millions of our mothers and fathers were forced to Europe and America on boats through the Atlantic ocean.

What is more, the african diversity in Cameroon – I so mean the people here in the triangle with a cultural continuity with other parts of the motherland – is another good reason to support a cameroonian candidacy for a future African/African American summit. If Cameroon agrees to play his role, our country can really be a door to the unity of all the Africans and thus fulfil that line of our national anthem second verse which says « foster for mother Africa a loyalty ». According to our elder's vision let us be devoted and loyal children of mother africa whose children are scattered all over the world. The big issue for Cameroon is the successful marriage of the triangle with the triangle, the osmosis between the small triangle (Cameroon) and the mother triangle, because Africa too is a triangle. The aim here is our total insertion, even our merging with the body of Africa.

We in Cameroon must acknowledge and live the reality of the african family both trans- and continental, i think here of the african diaspora all over the globe. Should the stakes of union be reminded here? Union means that all the energies, talents and competence are put together. Unity is the key. Unity is the winning number. Unity always will be more powerful than individualism. It is always better to have nine talents together than one lonely isolated talent, no matter how big the talent.
