Alcohol addiction, Tobacco addiction

Not only are alcohol and tobacco addictions real public health problems but they can also seriously affect the economic life of the nation. Our country needs healthy men women and children. We therefore should feel concerned about alcohol and tobacco addictions in our society.

The eventuality of our beers containing an exaggerated alcohol rate we should not overlook since this is the feeling expressed by our beers consumers who have had the opportunity to travel in other countries and drink beers made there. Many cigarette consumers seem to share the same feeling with cigarettes manufactured in other countries. Investigations must be made by our ministry of public health in order to determine whether or not the alcohol and tobacco proportioning inside the beers and cigarettes made in Cameroon ought to be lowered to avoid the people of The National Triangle to be an unwilling alcohol and tobacco addicted people. Those investigations should be made with no complaisance for again, we are here dealing with a public health problem. If the conclusions of experts is that the alcohol and tobacco rates inside our beers and cigarettes is too high, breweries and cigarettes manufacturers should by forced by law to conform themselves to the authorized rates. In order to preserve the health and lives of the children of The Triangle.

Alcohol also is a cause of the mortality on our roads. Excess of alcohol affects our vital force, our work force as well as our ability to think. An alcoholic parent is danger for his or her family and for the education of the children who will be in charge of the nation tomorrow. Alcoholic parents are a danger for their children to come.  Along with beers, the fight against alcoholism will have to target home made alcoholic drinks as well. Since that step has already been made our government will have to go further on in that direction.

Alcoholism in our youth has become worrisome; we therefore must worry about it and hurry to find solutions to it. Precocious cigarette smoking among the youth is also a matter of concern. The increasing poverty has led the moral values to decrease in a way that the fight for survival can force a barman to sell unauthorized alcoholic drinks to teenagers. So, poverty, lacks of perspective, uncertainties about the future are at the heart of the moral decay of our society and what we know as alcoholism in our youths. Behind misery there is corruption, misappropriation of funds, mismanagement: here is the core of the problem. Here is today the first disease of our society.

As long as nothing serious is done to fight that, I fear the national boat will keep on a-sinking. Financial backers or other country from the North will be of no help to us since they are the principal actors of our countries’ impoverishment. This dynamic should be an internal one and emanate from the cameroonian head of state.
