Prevention of disasters

After the toxic fumes of lakes Nyos and Wum or to a lesser extent the volcanic eruption of mount Fako; after the tragic fire of Nsam; after two plane crashes that occurred at Douala and its vicinity and the recent crash of one plane from the Kenya Airways, it is time Cameroon adopts a clear policy of prevention and management of disasters.

We will have to be able to evacuate populations from disaster zones with all the logistics it implies. In Cameroon we must have well trained and equipped first-aid workers ready to rescue and save lives. Zones that present a permanent or potential risk in the case of natural disasters must be listed and some good work must be done in that way. Measures must be taken in order to insure the safety of Cameroonians.

Accidents are part of life. This we have to acknowledge and react accordingly that is to say we must give ourselves the means to face catastrophes or any other disasters caused by man or by nature. No more must we be surprised in the future. We also must make sure professional incompetence or negligence do not cause disasters in Cameroon.
