A Mobile Capital

  Cameroon does not limit itself to about seven cities, nor does it limit itself to what some call « the city of the seven hills », Yaounde. All the cities, all the regions, the whole country must be given the same attention. That is why I suggest a mobile capital for the future. A simple observation led to me to this conclusion: the cities that usually welcome a cameroonian head of state for two or three days always do even the impossible to look beautiful. What we witness then is clean streets with no waste nowhere to be seen, clean roads and buildings with refreshed painting, clean public spaces. In short we can see those cities surpassing themselves to shine for the occasion.

Now, to be more concrete, a mobile capital would mean for the cameroonian head of state to settle in every administrative center of each province for a given time, let's say two weeks in a year. The actual administrative configuration of Cameroon is 10 provinces for the whole country. With the exception of Yaounde we would have:

2 weeks x 9 provinces = 18 weeks

<=> 4 months and 2 weeks per year.

During that time each administrative center of every province would be a virtual capital, thus the notion of a « mobile capital ». This would still leave 7 months and 2 weeks for the cameroonian head of state to work in Yaounde the actual capital. Although the details of this project are still to be defined, yet the idea itself is not, from my humble point of view totally devoid of consistency. I think the idea can work. Yes, I believe a mobile capital can work for The National Triangle. In a maximum of two years, we will have greatly reduced the inequality among the provinces of Cameroon, with increased urbanization in the whole Triangle.

We already have the principle of work tours for the president of the republic of Cameroon, but I think a mobile capital goes much further. One other good point with a mobile capital is that it provides the president of the republic of Cameroon the means to work in the field, to be more directly connected with Cameroonians everyday problems and struggles.
